Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the most common questions about our student loans

What are the requirements to get a student loan at CeSA BANK?
Enrollment in a higher education institution (French or foreign), aged 18–28 (or emancipated minor), French nationality or EU/EEA resident. Present student card or enrollment certificate. No strict income requirement, and possible without parental guarantee (or via state guarantee up to €20,000).
How long can repayment deferral last?
Full deferral: you pay nothing (neither principal nor interest) during studies + up to 24 months after. Partial deferral: interest only during studies, principal after. Total repayment period cannot exceed 10–12 years after signing.
Is parental guarantee required for a student loan?
Not always: for smaller amounts or via state-guaranteed loan (up to €20,000), no guarantee is needed. For higher amounts (up to €50,000), parental or third-party guarantee may be requested depending on your file and solvency.
What is the interest rate for a student loan?
Preferential rate from 0.9% to 3.5% fixed APR (depending on term, amount and profile), much lower than standard loans. Some promotions or partnerships even offer 0% on part of it (e.g. tuition fees). APR includes insurance if chosen.
Can I repay early?
Yes, fully free or with very limited penalties (often 0% for student loans). You can repay all or part at any time, even during deferral, to reduce total cost.
Is borrower insurance mandatory?
No, it is optional. However, recommended to cover death/disability. You can choose your own policy or the bank's. It slightly increases the APR but protects your loved ones.
Can I combine a student loan with grants/aid?
Yes, absolutely! The student loan combines perfectly with CROUS grants, housing aid, student jobs or other funding. It is designed to complement these resources.
